The alpha test is usually a closed, private phase of testing restricted to the professional quality control testers, and friends and family of Sigil. This phase started prior to August 2005. This phase is very small to test a very early stage of development. The single goal of this phase in testing is to ensure that some of the underlying technologies are working properly.
